The Apple Vision Pro is not yet officially on sale and we already have the first reports about the costs of the second generation. According to Bloomberg, Apple is working to cut costs in half and reduce the price to the public. A nearby supply chain report has backed this up according to Digitimes.
Apple Vision Pro cheaper for a second generation.
This may not please users who are already eager to buy the first generation but it is that Apple is already testing up to 3 variants of the new headphones. The starting price would be $1500 to $2000, very significant savings compared to the $3499 of the first generation.
The factor that will be tested to achieve this at first would be the elimination of the EyeSight function, in addition to other components that would reduce the cost by 50%. It could be an affordable version, something similar to the iPhone SE in terms of Apple linguistics.
In addition to cost savings, assembly and general R&D, marketing, distribution and sales expenses would also be reduced, although an approximate percentage is not specified. It is also confirmed that a high-end version will continue to be manufactured as the one that is about to be launched. This means that there will be opportunities for more people to deal with a product that is aimed at a specific niche.
First things first, Vision Pro 1 in 2024
In June something changed again within Apple’s product portfolio. The mixed reality experience materialized and ceased to be a rumor on the lips of media, journalists and rumor-mongers. A new era of “spatial computing” in a product that could look like any virtual reality glasses but with a very special technology inside.
Those who have already had the privilege of trying the Apple Vision Pro say that it is such a sophisticated experience that it can replace many real life experiences. The most advanced 4K displays, power from the M2 and R1 chips proving that we are facing a next leader in the industry.
Apple and everyone knows that it will not be a mass product, that is, it will not be as popular in sales as an iPhone but it can become a value trend in the almost near future.
If what Digitimes has reported of an affordable version on the way is in the works, let’s not doubt that by 2024 the folks in Cupertino will surprise us with a next generation. It is too early to launch but they could give us a preview as happened this year. It is also early to say that it will be a success given the initial price of the first generation. It has the future and all the potential to be the heir to the iPhone throne as in that distant 2007.
