We recently highlighted the new iOS 17 location push as one of the best features of the latest version of the iPhone’s mobile operating system. Now we will analyze the operation of its sister function, the “Notice of Arrival” or also known as “Check In” after its official presentation at WWDC 2023.
Along with these two functions we were talking about, Apple has introduced a dozen new features in its native Messages app. There’s a little bit of everything. Now there’s a button to skip to the last unread message, a new drop-down menu with a very attractive minimalist redesign, a new method to create stickers, emoji reactions, audio message transcriptions and much more.
Arrival notice: the new iOS 17 feature.
The Arrival Notice or Check In feature is a new feature in iOS 17 for the native Messages app that is specially designed to allow a contact to automatically notify another user when they have arrived at their destination via the iPhone’s location services.
“The arrival notification feature lets you share information with the person you choose to let them know if you’ve arrived safely at your destination.”
So, if a user sends or receives an Arrival Notice they can take a trip abroad, meet someone, go on a party or simply return home and the system will automatically take care of confirming to the other user that they have arrived safely at their destination.
In fact, Arrival Alert can even incorporate a timer to set a limit by which the user should arrive home. If you do not arrive at your destination within the previously agreed time, you will have to send a message every 15 minutes to confirm that you are okay.
