In the world of iPhones, rumors about potential increases in internal storage have become somewhat of a tradition preceding recent launches. Once again, speculation has surfaced, suggesting that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro could boast a substantial 2TB of internal storage. This information comes from a recent post by the Korean blogger “@yeux1122,” known for a mixed track record of accurate Apple-related predictions.
The focus of this rumor revolves around the potential release of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, featuring an ultra-large 2TB storage option attributed to the incorporation of QLC flash memory, providing enhanced capacity. This doubles the maximum storage capacity compared to the iPhone 15 Pro models.
While lower storage models, such as 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, utilize triple-level cell (TLC) NAND flash memory.
Exploring the Advancements: QLC NAND and Storage Efficiency
Apple’s utilization of QLC NAND could enable the company to accommodate more storage in a smaller space, all at a lower cost compared to the current triple-level cell (TLC) NAND used in current iPhones. However, it’s essential to note that QLC does come with the downside of comparatively slower read and write speeds. Thus, a 1TB iPhone 15 Pro Max might have faster read and write speeds than a 1TB iPhone 16 Pro due to this storage technology difference.
Despite this performance gap, where QLC flash storage offers write speeds of 550 MB/s, while TLC options can achieve speeds between 450 MB/s and 500 MB/s, Apple may be willing to embrace it.
The Evolution of iPhone 16: What to Expect
Even though the official unveiling of the iPhone 16 is still a way off, the circulating rumors are becoming increasingly captivating. What initially seemed like a minor upgrade compared to the iPhone 15 has now evolved into a path filled with heightened expectations.
According to persistent reports, the iPhone 16 may feature a larger display, a 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens, improved battery life, and an enhanced A18 Pro chip or a novel button. The latter could be positioned on the right frame in the lower zone, completely opposite to the Action Button introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro.
Despite the time remaining until the official launch, the excitement surrounding these speculations is building up. The iPhone 16’s capabilities will likely receive more clarity with a sneak peek into its future features during the announcement of iOS 18 at WWDC 2024.
