Earlier this year, OnePlus confirmed its intention to launch its first folding mobile with the aim of facing manufacturers such as Samsung, Xiaomi or Motorola, who also have in their catalog a feature device. And this one, is about to be officially announced. The so-called OnePlus Open will be launched on October 19, and although the company has not revealed major details, we already know virtually all its features, innovations and advantages over its competition.
One of the keys to the OnePlus Open is its design. OnePlus, in particular -and as shown in some leaked images-, will maintain a very similar aesthetic to the rest of its conventional phones. That is, the folding of the brand will arrive with a back that stands out, above all, for its photographic module. This will have a circular shape that will protrude slightly from the edge. It will also include a glass back in a matte finish.
The most notable aspect of the OnePlus Open’s appearance, however, is its format. It will have a “book-style” design. That is, it will feature a flexible display that opens horizontally, like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 or the Oppo Find N2. This will make the OnePlus Open have an outer screen of a similar size to that of a smartphone, so that the user can easily navigate the interface without having to open the device.
The displays of the OnePlus Open
Of the screens, by the way, we also know details. The outer panel will be 6.31 inches. It will be a Fluid AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a maximum brightness of 2,800 nits and a screen ratio percentage of 91.8%.
The flexible outer panel, on the other hand, will feature Flexi-Fluid AMOLED technology, and will be 7.82 inches in size. It will also feature a 120 Hz refresh rate, as well as a brightness of 2,800 nits, although it will have a bit more of a bezel, as its screen ratio is 89.6 %.
About the flexible screen, there is a very interesting detail that OnePlus itself has shared. The terminal will feature an improved “Flexion” hinge -the same that Oppo uses in its Find N-. This will make the panel bend more subtly, avoiding the tedious visible mark on the inner screen and preventing it from being damaged in the short term.
Processor, storage and battery
According to rumors, the OnePlus Open will arrive equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. It will do so, in addition, with a variant of up to 16 GB of RAM, as well as 512 GB of internal memory. It is likely, that yes, that we will see more modest versions, perhaps with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.
The OnePlus Open, on the other hand, could arrive with a 4,800 mAh battery; a smaller capacity than the battery of the OnePlus 11 (5,000 mAh). It will also feature 67W fast charging. It is unclear whether the brand’s foldable will also support wireless charging.
This is what the cameras of the OnePlus Open will look like
OnePlus confirmed that the OnePlus Open will arrive with a new 48-megapixel Sony LYTIA-T808 sensor. This, in particular, incorporates Pixel Stacked technology, which is able to capture more light despite the relatively small sensor size.
The OnePlus Open will also have a second ultra-wide-angle camera with 48-megapixel resolution, as well as a third 64-megapixel telephoto sensor capable of capturing images with a 3x optical zoom. The telephoto camera could also offer a zoom of up to 6x in hybrid format (mixing optical and digital zoom), as well as a digital crop of up to 120x.
The OnePlus foldable, on the other hand, will have two cameras dedicated to selfies. One located on the outer screen, which will have a resolution of 32 megapixels; and another on the flexible inner screen, with a resolution of 20 megapixels.
OnePlus Open: launch date and pricing
The OnePlus Open, we reiterate, will be officially announced next October 19, as confirmed by the company. According to a rumor, the foldable will be available at a price of $ 1,699 in its variant with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.
